Lactose Intolerant Much?

While we have been trying to eat really healthy, we are always watching our bodies for signs.  Well, I have always been really sensitive to milk products.  I was curious about gluten...well, I had that zesty cheese sauce for nachos.  OHHH so good...

Results...speak for themselves.
Ok, so milk is not good for this lady.  It wasn't long before I had to undo my button, then it just ballooned.
Proof is in the picture.  Gluten is not so bad, but milk...yup...not so great.

A quick holiday

We were privileged to enjoy a relaxed Cariboo country wedding this weekend.  We took the opportunity to take a day off with my folks, carpool to the wedding, spend a night in a Motel and hang out.
For the thrifty part, we couldn't use our Airmiles for a Best Western, as we didn't have 3 weeks notice.  So we sold some things (pies and clothes and books, etc) and made enough money for one night at the Travelodge.  We had heard good things about the Motel online from reviews.
We packed some food and headed out Saturday morning.
Waking up at 5:30am has it's advantages!  View from our house.

Welcome to the Travelodge QuesnelThey just recoated the pavement, so it was very clean and black!  This Motel was CLEAN!

You can dress them up, but you can't take them out!

We had top floor, rooms right next to eachother.

Ruth swimming

Mei learned to dive and basically swim at this pool.

Kate

Goggles work great, they also make us laugh at
their adorable little fishy faces

Had to have some junk food from Safeway (very close by) and
watch some "Mantracker"

Craving that spicy hot cheese sauce with nachos...I'll post another
entry about what happened afterwards :)

Tired little girls ~ they had so much fun at the wedding,
then the pool, then watching TV ~ yes ~ TV!
Free Continental breakfast in the lobby area...bagels, toast, boiled eggs, cereal, juices, teas, yogurt, fruit.  YUM!  We were all thrilled with the dispensers and the bagel slicer too.  Doesn't take much to thrill us.

Never fear when Raj is here!
He brought out more Fruit Loops!
They gave the girls little smiley tops.

Seema and Raj were super friendly, not at all creepy friendly, just the sort that made you want to go back again.  Mei was singing a little song to herself as we were leaving ... all I heard was something about "UNhappy Mei is leaving the motel..."  Later at the park I heard her asking "who wants to go back to the Motel?"  I don't know if she remembers ever going to a motel with a pool.  We went to one near Barkerville and had mini cereal boxes which she remembered, but there was no pool.
Happy Mei ~ we hadn't left yet

And FRUIT LOOPS!

Yummy yogurts
Very suitable shirt

We would for sure go and stay here again.  It is easy to find, and although it is off the Hwy 97, the noise wasn't bad.  We turned on the fan/air conditioner in the room and slept until 8:34am when Ruth said "we're going to miss breakfast!"

A little Show n and whole lotta Shine

We had a fun surprise when we realized there was a Show'n'Shine going on by our motel! We saw some "cool, cute, neat, wow" cars and trucks. Men and Ruth decided to stay and look while the rest went for a quick grocery shop.  The above collage is of a truck and trailer that we all loved.  So adorable and RED!

I am experimenting with Picasa to edit some of my photos, but I do not have my head wrapped around it at all.  Maybe this will wait until later in September when I have more time!

Dad didn't find his favorite, but maybe another time!

It's brown...it's old...she likes it.
She also liked the old BROWN Ford pick ups.

She likes the Mustangs with big motors!

Those are big 1 scoopers!  Had to splurge as it was over 30C

What's not to love about this photo?  hee hee

I believe there were twin girls with these adorable backpacks.
The tail was basically a handle for the parent!  SMART!

Ruth has this thing about being "scared of Indian's"...
too many old movies?  ha ha

That's one low rider!  A hearse...super fancy

Can you see me driving this into town to sell eggs?
I DO!

Lincoln ~ Jason, need we say more?

A nice convertible for the family to drive to town delivering eggs...

No day is complete without our girls finding animal friends to exclaim
"awwww soooo cute!"  Mei loves Pugs right now, and this
little girl was 4 months old.

Jason again....no explanation needed.
The General Lee

Awww the rumble seat!
We had so much fun on our 2 day, 1 night outing with my folks that we only feel like "we need to do this more"  A change is as good as a rest and a rest is even better!

A "Tina's Day" Challenge

Hey, are you up for it?  If you knew Tina ~  I do hereby CHALLENGE you to ~
1.  Eat Corn nuts
2. Enjoy some Nibs
3. Watch "Princess Bride", "Rain Man" or "The God's Must be Crazy", "Abbott & Costello" or "3 Stooges", etc.
4. Sing a weird song REALLY loud, and if off-key ~ all the better!  Remember to do a funky dance or at least wave your arms around like a crazy person.
5. Stop and pick a bouquet of wild flowers.  Or at least smell some.
6. Sketch some trees.
7. Ride a horse!
8. Go .... shopping!  Spend every last dime in your purse.  If you can't spend it...give it to someone or take someone out for ice cream.
9.  Push someone in a shopping cart.
10.  Giggle so hard that someone falls out of bed.

You get the drift.  If you want, let me know what you did.
Tomorrow is going to be a fun day.  I'll post again soon.
Hugs and giggles and with my hair blowing in the breeze~

First little pullet eggs are arriving ~ week 17 ~

The first incubator batch has reached 17 + weeks old and we are finding some cute little eggs in the pen.  They are still figuring out what the nest are actually for, but they are "Oh, so cute!" little eggs.  We got 3 eggs the other day.  One hen (Joel or Victoria) has been laying well enough that the eggs are almost as big as the hens eggs and yesterday's egg was a double yoker.

We read chicken magazines for fun around these here parts!

They are yummy too.  We eat all the little eggs and leave the
big ones for customers.

Can't wait for the bantams to start laying so we can get blue/green and various sized eggs.  Just have to find 9 roosters new homes...maybe our egg production will go up!  They should be laying early early September by my calculations ~ they say anywhere between 17 - 20 weeks, but most around 20 weeks.
